The Airport Pickup
Eshan was about to step out for the airport when two more voices stopped him.
"Bhai, wait," Advik said, slipping his phone into his pocket, his usual quiet eyes filled with curiosity.
Kabir followed, hands in his coat pocket, his tone calm but firm. "We're coming too."
Eshan raised a brow, then smirked. "The more, the merrier. Let's go."
On the drive, their conversation naturally circled around the one person they had yet to meet.
"What do you think her age is?" Advik muttered while scrolling reels absentmindedly.
"Twenty, maybe twenty-one," Eshan shrugged, keeping his eyes on the road.
kabir leaned back in silence, though his mind was already painting a picture of a mature young woman, polished and sharp.
But the reality stunned them all.
When Innaya walked out of the arrival gate, pulling her suitcase behind her, the boys froze. She was not the tall, commanding figure they had imagined. Instead, a slender girl of about 5'7 in a chic green co-ord set appeared, her long hair brushing her shoulders, her face glowing with freshness despite the long flight.
In the Rathoure family—where the men were all six feet tall and even the women reached 5'11—Innaya's petite frame seemed delicate, almost fragile, in contrast.
Kabir was the first to move. He raised a hand in a calm gesture and said softly, "Hello, Innaya."
Her eyes widened, taking in the trio before her—three striking figures, each tall, broad, and intimidating in their own way. For a second, her heart skipped.
Innaya's POV
I thought meeting one of them would be overwhelming... but three? They look like they've walked straight out of some regal family portrait. Their presence is suffocating yet magnetic. I don't know whether to smile, greet, or just hide. I've never felt this small in my life.
The Drive Back
The SUV hummed quietly as the city lights blurred past. Eshan sat at the wheel, focused and sharp, while Advik scrolled through reels, his face occasionally lit up by the glow of his phone. At the back, Innaya sat stiffly with Kabir beside her, the silence heavy but not uncomfortable.
After a few minutes, kabir broke it. "So... what's your age?" His voice was deep, measured, curious but not invasive.
Innaya turned slightly. "Eighteen. Just finished school. I'll be starting further studies soon." Her tone was polite, steady, but inside her nerves rattled.
"And academics?" Kabir pressed, tilting his head.
"I scored well in my boards. Planning to pursue medicine." She smiled faintly, trying to keep her composure.
Though the conversation was meant just for them, Eshan's ears sharpened at the front, and even Advik lowered the volume on his reels to catch her words. Both exchanged a fleeting glance—half amused, half impressed.
After a pause, Kabir quietly pulled out a small packet of biscuits from his coat. "Hungry?"
Innaya shook her head. "No, thank you."
But Kabir , insistent, placed one in her hand. "Take it. Long flights are exhausting."
She hesitated, then accepted. The quiet crunch filled the air, and a small, unspoken warmth passed between them.
Arrival at Rathoure Mansion
When the SUV pulled into the sprawling estate, Innaya's lips parted in awe. The Rathoure mansion stretched before her like a palace, glittering with lights, every corner grand and intimidating.
It's like stepping into another world... so big, so alive... am I really supposed to belong here?
But the awe barely lasted.
The moment she stepped out of the car, her vision blurred. A sudden tightness gripped her chest, and before she could speak, her knees buckled.
"Innaya!" Eshan's voice boomed as he lunged forward, catching her before she hit the ground.
The family, who had been waiting near the entrance, rushed forward in shock. Myra's hands flew to her mouth, panic flashing in her eyes. "What happened to her?"
Eshan quickly carried her inside, laying her gently on the grand sofa. Advik was already on his phone. "Doctor is on the way!" he barked, his usual calm shattered by urgency.
Kabir , pale, stepped forward, holding out the half-open packet of biscuits. "She... she ate this."
Myra snatched the packet, her eyes scanning the label. Her face dropped. "This has peanuts."
Gasps rippled through the room. Myra's voice shook but remained steady. "She's allergic."
Without wasting another moment, she ran to her bag, pulled out emergency medicine, and carefully administered it. Within minutes, the sharp tension in the air softened as Innaya's breathing steadied, color returning to her cheeks.
Kabir 's voice was low, filled with regret. "I... I didn't know. I'm sorry, Myra."
Myra placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "You didn't mean harm. Just be careful next time."
The family slowly dispersed, heavy with the day's events. The grandeur of the wedding was replaced by the hush of worry and exhaustion. One by one, the Rathoure sons climbed the stairs to their rooms, while Abhimanyu lingered silently beside his daughter, his eyes reflecting both relief and pride in her strength.
The night ended quietly, the mansion alive only with the whisper of chandeliers and the faint sighs of a girl who had just stepped into a world larger than she ever imagined.
That night, after the doctor left and the mansion settled into silence, Myra sat beside the sofa where Innaya lay asleep. Her chest rose and fell gently, though faint traces of exhaustion lingered on her face. Myra brushed a strand of hair from her daughter's forehead, her heart aching at how fragile she looked.
Abhimanyu stepped closer, his voice low. "She'll be fine now. Don't worry, Myra."
Myra turned to him, her eyes shining softly. "Abhi... can I sleep here with her tonight? Just to make sure she's okay?"
Abhimanyu looked at her for a moment, then smiled warmly, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Of course. She's your daughter, Myra. She needs you close right now."
Myra nodded gratefully. "Thank you. I... I just want her to feel safe. This house, this family—it's all new for her. But if I'm here, maybe she'll sleep peacefully."
Abhimanyu's eyes softened even more. "Then stay. Tomorrow will be a fresh start—for all of us."
He left quietly, leaving Myra by Innaya's side. Myra curled on the edge of the sofa, holding her daughter's hand gently. For the first time that day, peace settled over her heart.
